Here I am, jotting down bit to bit about what I think about life. This is life according to me. -Qarin Almaduri, 22

The Day I Turned 20

The day I turned 20,
I learnt, that love isn't all about commitment and effort,
But it's also about meeting the expectation of those people you love,
And if you're not able to do so, you're not good enough,
And dear, you don't deserved to be loved back,

The day I turned 20,
I learnt, that for people to stick around you,
Love alone is not enough to make them stay,
It also requires effort and commitment;
Which brings us back to that expectation bullshit,

The day I turned 20,
I learnt, that people are going to leave,
Despite the love, effort and commitment,
And you, my dear, will break from inside out,
Or you might feel nothing at all,

But on the day I turned 20,
I realized, that "screw being good enough!"
You live and breathe for yourself, not for others,
Cry, shout, smile, laugh,
For whatever that has happened, is happening and gonna happen;
Prioritize yourself first.

The day I turned 20 also,
I realized that it doesn't matter who leave or stay,
It doesn't matter who decided to stick around or run away,
Because those who matter will be there, always,
Because those who matter will not run back, but towards you, to chase.

And on the day I turned 20,
I realized that love isn't love when you're expected to do something,
Love, to me, is accepting she or he as they are,
Because that's what love is all about,
Accepting.

Thank you for accepting me,
M. Qarin Al Maduri
